It must be remembered that the purpose of education is not to fill the minds of students with facts….it is to teach them to think, if that is possible, and always to think for themselves. As a school secretary, my job revolves around the students, just as much as the teachers. Our job is critical to the success of the students, supplying the teachers with the concrete tools; books, and such, that makes it possible for them to do their job. The background work that keeps any organization running smoothly falls squarely on the shoulders of the secretaries, school-aides and all of the support staff. Here at Bedford, we all work together as a cohesive team, seeing to it that all staff members, and by extension, the students are taking care of. We see them all through their ups and downs. Because of the family atmosphere, I am encouraged to maintain records in a timely and efficient manner. I would like to say that the job done by my colleagues is performed with the same amount of rigor that is expected of our staff and students.

I started on the first day of school at Bedford Academy in September 2003, when we were located in the basement of Benjamin Banneker HS. We began as a family and we remain a family. I love Bedford Academy for what we stand for: “Academic Empowerment Is the Birthright of Every Child.”
